Because of the stalling growth in hardware and supplies sale, printing companies are competing for contracts to overhaul the way the customers print.

Competition among Xerox, HP and others companies are intensified. All these companies provide managed print services (MPS) to handle a customer’s needs, including printers, ink and guides on reducing cost.

Will the more efficient printing solutions decrease the sales of hardware and toners? No one can give a certain answer.

Bruce Dahlgren, head of printing services unit, HP says they want to provide the right technology to meet the customers’ needs.

Most enterprises and mid-sized companies don’t do a good job of managing print, according to Ken Weilerstein, an analyst at research firm Gartner Inc. He said managed print projects typically cut printing costs by 10% to 30%.

Xerox Senior VP Joyce says Xerox has shifted its focus to sell the service to small and medium sized business. It also focuses more marketing spending on MPS.
